Mental Illness Recovery Center, Inc. opens new youth drop-in center

The Mental Illness Recovery Center, Inc. (MIRCI)is holding a press conference to celebrate the grand opening of the new Youth Drop-In Center located at 1433 Gregg Street at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

The Youth Drop-in Center is for Youth age 17 through 24 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Columbia, SC.

MIRCI will accept referrals from local school districts, partner youth serving agencies, local shelters, the Public Defender’s Office, and other organizations encountering homeless or at-risk youth.

The Drop-in Center will be staffed by a team of clinicians, homeless outreach workers, case managers and support staff.  In addition to providing a safe place for youth, the Center will be a hub for engagement, assessment, referral to partner agencies, and trauma-focused services.

In cooperation with United Way of the Midlands’ Youth in Transition initiative, MIRCI’s goal is to work closely with partner agencies to build a comprehensive network of providers bridging the gaps in service to at-risk youth.
