March 29, 2016
  • Run participants can meet I Got Legs founder Adam Gorlitsky at the Bridge Run Expo
  • Bridge Run Expo is March 31, 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. and April 1, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC, an automotive manufacturing facility in the Charleston area, has partnered with the Cooper River Bridge Run to support the I Got Legs charity organization. I Got Legs is a charity founded by Adam Gorlitsky, who at age 19 survived a car accident that left him with a spinal cord injury paralyzing him from the waist down. Nearly a decade later, Adam is able to walk with help from a robotic exoskeleton called ReWalk, and now his goal is to be the first paralyzed man to walk in the Cooper River Bridge Run.

Adam Gorlitsky recently toured the Mercedes-Benz Vans facility located just north of Charleston in Ladson, South Carolina. Several team members showed him how the plant’s Sprinter and Metris vans are produced, and Adam shared his stories of challenges and triumphs over the last decade of learning to walk again. You can see more about Adam’s story and his visit with the Mercedes-Benz Vans team in this video.

“Mercedes-Benz Vans supports I Got Legs and Adam in his inspiring goal to be the first paralyzed man to walk the Cooper River Bridge Run,” said interim CEO Fabio Bela. “His story of determination leaves a lasting impression and now — we walk with Adam!”

Mercedes-Benz Vans has set a fundraising goal of $10,000 for their support of the I Got Legs organization, and encourages run participants to stop by the Bridge Run Expo to meet Adam and the team in person. Additional fundraising opportunities can be found on http://www.igotlegs.org/.
