Middle school counseling programs named model programs

The American School Counselor Association recognized two Lexington County School District One schools, Lexington Middle and Pelion Middle, for their strong school counseling programs by naming them Recognized ASCA Model Program schools.
Schools can earn RAMP status after demonstrating a commitment to providing students with a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment.
“This year’s RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school counseling profession,” said Jill Cook, ASCA assistant director. “These schools used data to drive their program development and implementation so all students can achieve success. RAMP designation distinguishes these schools and encourages school counselors nationwide to strive for excellence.”
In July 2017, representatives from LMS and PMS will attend the ASCA National School Counselor Conference in Denver, Colorado, to receive the recognition.
Since the program’s inception in 2003, more than 600 schools have earned RAMP designation. Eleven Lexington District One school counseling programs, including Carolina Springs Middle, Forts Pond Elementary, Lake Murray Elementary, Lexington High, Midway Elementary, Pelion High, Pleasant Hill Middle, Rocky Creek Elementary White Knoll Elementary, White Knoll Middle and White Knoll High, previously achieved RAMP recognition.
The ASCA is a nonprofit professional organization that helps school counselors guide their students toward academic achievement, career planning and social/emotional development to ensure students become productive, contributing members of society.
