Midlands Companies Help Stock the Shelves of Local Nonprofits
June 4, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – A group of Columbia-area businesses and their customers recently contributed to a food and pet supply drive that scored hundreds of items (and even some cash) for two local non-profits. The donations, ranging from tennis balls and bleach for the animal rescue organization to peanut butter and diapers for the food bank, were based off each organization’s “wish list” for most-needed items. PETS Inc., a no-kill animal shelter that finds permanent or foster homes for over 4,000 dogs and cats each year, will receive the animal-related items, and Harvest Hope, a food bank that serves 20 counties in South Carolina, will receive the food.
The event was coordinated by a coalition of organizations centered in the Irmo-Columbia area. Participants in this year’s drive included: South Carolina Medical Assocation; GWA, Inc., Electrical Engineers; Center for Behavioral Health; Hampton Inn on the Lake at Harbison; Professional Insurance Agents of SC; Columbia Conference Center; DuBose Web Group; Research Associates; and The Evaluation Group.
A core group of northwest Columbia companies coordinates bimonthly community service initiatives like the drive, and public is invited to participate in their efforts. Their next event will be an Adopt-a-Highway road pickup for Keep the Midlands Beautiful on June 5 at 10 AM, followed by a free pizza lunch for all participants.
