Midlands Technical College names top employees for 2016

Midlands Technical College (MTC) kicked off its fall semester by honoring its Employees of the Year for 2016.  Combined, all five honorees represent 112 years of service to MTC, its students, and the community.

“Here at Midlands Technical College, we take great pride in honoring our employees whose contributions to the college’s mission and vision go above and beyond expected job duties,” said MTC President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames.

There are five employee of the year categories, one of which is new this year. The 2016 MTC Employees of the Year are:

Administrator of the Year: Sylvia Littlejohn – As the college’s Director of Enrollment Services, Littlejohn was selected for her innovative leadership in student recruitment efforts, as well as for her work in implementing a new customer communications management system at the college.  She has served as the president of the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers of North and South Carolina.

Faculty of the Year: Dwayne Lee – Criminal Justice instructor Dwayne Lee has conducted training sessions on Constitutional issues and due process with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post, served as a mock-juror for the National Advocacy Group at the University of South Carolina, and participated in workshops on Driving Under the Influence through the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

NEW: Service Excellence Leader of the Year: Alison St. Clair – As a Student Service Program Coordinator on the Airport Campus, St. Clair was selected for her enthusiasm, commitment, and excellence in service.  St. Clair was praised for her dedication to students and for giving every person she comes in contact with the utmost respect.

Staff of the Year: Donna Freeman – A Groundskeeper for the Beltline Campus, Freeman was selected for her dedication to keeping the grounds of the Beltline Campus beautiful whether the temperature is 100 degrees or 15 degrees.  With more than 25 years serving MTC, Freeman has never taken a sick day.

Supervisor of the Year: Dale Stokes – Stokes is a Grounds Supervisor and a certified horticulturist who has served the state of South Carolina for 30 years. He was recognized, in part, for stressing the importance of education and certification for his employees to advance in their field.

Dr. Rhames presented the awards alongside Robby Wilkins, Chair of the MTC Commission; and Joe Johnson, Chair of the MTC Foundation.

“Presenting these awards to the college’s most distinguished employees is one of the highlights of starting fall semester at MTC,” said Rhames.  “The entire college joins us in celebrating these esteemed individuals who provide service above and beyond everyday responsibilities.”
