Midlands Technical College President Ron Rhames elected to prominent national board

August 7, 2017

Midlands Technical College President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames has been elected to serve on the Board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Founded in 1920, the American Association of Community Colleges has become the leading proponent and the national “voice for community colleges.”

“Dr. Rhames has always been a significant voice for two-year colleges and the important role they play in higher education,” said Garry Powers, MTC Commission Chair. “He has experience as a community college student as well as a community college president. The AACC is fortunate to have Dr. Rhames on its board. I can think of no one who would be more qualified and bring more insight to the organization.”

An alumnus of MTC, Rhames already has vast experience volunteering his time at international, national, and regional levels. His affiliations include chairing the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Board of Directors, serving as president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO), and as president of the International Community College Business Officers (CCBO) organization.

“I am both happy and humbled to serve on the board of such an important national association,” said Rhames. “My commitment to the technical and community college system is to always put students first and ensure they receive the best education and services possible. These are the guiding principles I plan to bring to the AACC as our organization advocates for the 13 million community college students across the country.”

The AACC represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 13 million students as well as a growing number of international members in Puerto Rico, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

Rhames will serve on the 32-member board of directors until 2020.
