Midlands Technical College’s Rhames Elected Board Chair of National Association

COLUMBIA, SC – Dr. Ronald L. Rhames, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Midlands Technical College (MTC), has been chosen to chair the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Board of Directors.
NACUBO is a membership organization representing more than 2,500 two-year and four-year colleges, universities, and higher education service providers across the country and around the world. NACUBO specifically represents chief business and financial officers through advocacy efforts, community service, and professional development activities. The association’s mission is to advance the economic viability and business practices of higher education institutions in fulfillment of their academic missions. Rhames has served on the NACUBO board since 2010 and as president of the Southern Association of College Business Officers board from 2011 to 2012.
In his current role at MTC, Rhames is responsible for the college’s physical plant operations, human resources, finance and accounting, auxiliary and support services, development, Harbison Theatre operations, internal auditing, and information technology. Rhames is also responsible for staffing several committees of the institution’s board of trustees. Under Rhames’ leadership, MTC has received the coveted Certificate of Achievement for Financial Reporting awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada for 18 consecutive years.
“Dr. Rhames has dedicated his professional life to the business and financial operations of higher education,” said Dr. Marshall (Sonny) White, Jr., MTC president. “He has kept MTC financially stable during difficult times and I’m pleased to see his business and financial expertise acknowledged at a national level.”
Rhames, who has worked at MTC since 1990, previously served as vice president for fiscal affairs at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He also is a former banker.
Rhames earned a doctorate in business administration from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan; a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina; and an associate degree in management from Midlands Technical College. He is a graduate of the College Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky, Lexington; and is a Kellogg Fellow for Leadership in Community Colleges.
He has also served as past president of the Community College Business Officers and the Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina, and as past chair of South Carolina Technical College System’s Business Officers Peer Group. He currently serves on the board of Midlands Middle College in Columbia, South Carolina.
