“Tara is an outstanding advocate for college access and educational opportunity  for under-served populations such as low income and first-generation students,” said Sandi Oliver, MTC Vice President of Student Development Services “Tara is a strong leader of TRIO programs at the local, state and regional level, and we are delighted that she has now been recognized  and had the opportunity to share her expertise at the national level.”

Holmon, who is the South Carolina TRIO President, was a part of the first cohort of State TRIO Presidents to attend the Institute.

“TRIO is a very important organization in the Midlands,” said Holmon. “The Midlands-area TRIO programs have assisted thousands of low-income students, first generation students, and students with disabilities to successfully matriculate from secondary education to post-secondary education and beyond.”
