More Public Parking Now Available in Downtown Laurens

April 20, 2022

With new businesses and entertainment options in downtown Laurens comes new challenges.

More to do in downtown Laurens calls for additional parking lots. “With two lots in the immediate area, parking in front of businesses, and the spaces surrounding the Historic Courthouse you might think that is plenty but add a special event or Friday Night Live and you might be challenged to find parking.

To alleviate the issue, the City has signed a lease so the public can now use parking that was reserved before.

“We know accessibility for handicapped individuals is an issue, so we have added new accessible parking around the Square.  But, even for folks who don’t have mobility challenges, we know folks want plenty of convenient parking,” said Mayor Nathan Senn. “So, rather than having a privately owned lot sit empty, we saw an opportunity to meet an important priority through public-private partnership.”

The newest public parking lot is located at Court Street and Caroline Street and includes 23 new spaces.  Combined with the parking lot located on Highway 221 and  the lot at Caroline and W. Laurens Street, there are a total of 165 parking spaces (not including those directly on the square).
