Motor Supply Co. Bistro recommended in the inaugural Michelin Guide to the American South
November 5, 2025Motor Supply Co. Bistro, a cornerstone of Columbia, South Carolina’s culinary scene, has been officially recommended by the Michelin Guide in its inaugural Guide to the American South, marking a historic milestone for Columbia and South Carolina. Motor Supply is one of only two Columbia restaurants recognized by the prestigious international culinary authority and places them among a distinguished collection of Southern restaurants honored for their creativity, quality and devotion to the art of exceptional dining.
“This recognition is a testament to our remarkable team and the vibrant community that supports us,” says Motor Supply Co. Bistro owner Eddie Wales. “Our mission has always been to deliver not just great food, but an experience that embodies authenticity and genuine hospitality. Having that commitment recognized by Michelin is truly rewarding.”
The debut of the Michelin Guide to the American South spans Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Atlanta — with selections announced during a ceremony at the Peace Center in Greenville, S.C., on Monday, Nov. 4.
Being recommended means Michelin’s anonymous inspectors have selected the restaurant for delivering a rewardingly good meal — with quality ingredients, well-executed cooking and thoughtful presentation. Inspectors make multiple visits and assess each restaurant using five universal criteria: quality of ingredients, harmony of flavors, mastery of techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine and consistency over time and across the entire menu. As Michelin explains, “recommended” signifies a chef using quality ingredients that are well cooked and is part of the Guide’s broader selection that inspectors update throughout the year.
In addition to Motor Supply, Di Vino Rosso, was also recommended from Columbia, among several others across the state. South Carolina earned four one-star distinctions and one Bib Gourmand distinction. These honors highlight the state’s growing culinary scene and commitment to excellence.
“We’re proud to represent Columbia and the incredible food scene growing here,” Wales said. “This kind of recognition means a lot to our whole team, local partners and the guests who support us,” says Wales.
Located in the city’s historic Vista district, Motor Supply is known for its chef-driven, seasonally inspired menus that change daily. By partnering with local producers and approaching every plate with artistry and purpose, the restaurant has established itself as a leader in the region’s evolving culinary landscape.
Led by owner Eddie Wales, Motor Supply has been a fixture in Columbia’s Vista for 36 years. Wales brings more than 30 years of restaurant experience and a deep passion for Columbia to his work every day. Placing a priority on green business practices and contemporary Southern hospitality, Wales leads a staff of passionate professionals who go above and beyond in everything they do.
