Municipal Association of SC recognized for excellence in communications projects

November 8, 2017

The SC Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators recognized the Municipal Association of SC with six Palmetto awards at its annual award dinner. The Municipal Association represents all 271 South Carolina cities and towns.

The Association garnered an Award of Merit for its blog, City Connect, that provides quick, timely updates on legislative issues, court cases and other breaking news topics of interest to cities and towns. The Association’s workers’ compensation tool kit won an Award of Merit. The toolkit gives local elected officials an at-a-glance resource that helps them navigate the complexities of workers compensation law and policies. An Award of Merit also went to a campaign related to the Association’s legislative outreach strategies.

Three staff members were individually recognized. Meredith Houck, the Association’s website and creative services manager, received an Award of Merit for her work on the 2017 Achievement Awards video presentation. The video features the winners of the Association’s nine annual awards, and is posted on city websites, shared on social media and used in city hall kiosks. Sarita Chourey, the Association’s content manager, received an Award of Excellence for writing for an article that ran in the Association’s magazine, a Midlands online publication and a local business magazine and spotlighted the ongoing work to recover from Hurricane Matthew. Reba Campbell, the Association’s deputy executive director, received an Award of Merit for writing for a column that ran in a regional business magazine.
