MUSC announces new chief communication and marketing officer

Candidate’s leadership philosophy, career evolution help her stand out

 

Sheila Champlin, M.A., has been named Chief Communication and Marketing Officer, a new position at The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) beginning January 1, 2016

“Sheila comes to us with a wealth of experience that positions her as the right candidate to step into this important new leadership role for the organization,” said David J. As part of the senior leadership team, Champlin will assist in optimizing MUSC’s vision while maximizing communication strategies to achieve defined business and reputational goals.

Champlin currently serves as assistant vice chancellor of communications and marketing at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, TN, where she has managed all communications and marketing efforts for the $800 million academic and research facility. Her experience includes strategic communication efforts at campus locations across Tennessee, involving brand management, media relations, advertising, internal communication, crisis communication, social media management and legislative relations.

Prior to arriving at UTHSC, Champlin worked as a communication consultant for corporate, small business and non-profit clients. She also served as vice president of communications at Scholastic, Inc., director of marketing communications for AT&T Capital Corporation, vice president and director of corporate communications for Prudential Securities, Inc., and vice president and director of business development at Ogilvy Adams & Rinehart, Inc.

Champlin received her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, Mo., and her bachelor’s degree in communication from St. Louis University, Mo. She is an active Public Relations Society of America member, and is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
