MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center earns “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
November 18, 2024New grade for fall 2024 highlights national recognition for commitment to patient safety
MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center has once again achieved an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health care quality and safety in the United States. This achievement marks the third consecutive “A” for the medical center, a reflection of the center’s steadfast commitment to providing safe, high-quality care.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a rigorous assessment, assigning grades from “A” to “F” based on more than 30 indicators of hospital safety. These indicators include rates of medical errors, accidents, injuries, infections and the hospital’s preventive systems, designed to ensure patient well-being. The “A” grade is a mark of excellence, awarded to facilities demonstrating outstanding performance in these critical areas.
“We are incredibly honored to receive an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for the third consecutive time,” said Tallulah Holmstrom, M.D., chief medical officer at MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team, who remain deeply committed to providing the highest standards of safety and care for our patients. It’s a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a safe and supportive environment for the communities we serve.”
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade is the only national rating that focuses solely on hospital safety, addressing preventable errors, infections and injuries that tragically lead to more than 500 patient deaths each day across the United States. The program is fully transparent, peer-reviewed, and accessible to the public, with grades updated biannually in the fall and spring.
