Myrtle Beach Votes S.C. BlueCross Best Health Insurance Company

February 19, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – February 19, 2009 – Readers of the Myrtle Beach Herald voted BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina “Health Insurance Company of the Year” in the newspaper’s annual community rankings published today.

The newspaper management describes its “Best of the Year” competition as being valid and credible because it limits voting to subscribers only, and it allows only one vote per subscription. The newspaper also says the competition draws voters who are vested in the community and interested in Myrtle Beach’s future and that they vote for organizations that are vested in the community.

“We believe that the launch of our new, lower-cost Blue SpectrumSM plans helped us achieve this special recognition by the Myrtle Beach Herald readers,” said BlueCross Division President David Pankau.

“We take great pride that the people of Myrtle Beach chose us as their number one insurance company. As the only South Carolina-owned and operated health insurance carrier, we appreciate the support we get every year from all over South Carolina,” he said.

Blue Spectrum plans are available to individuals and businesses. All members benefit from BlueCross’ PPO network, the largest in the state, and the BlueCard® network that allows in-network access to providers in other states served by other Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.

Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (www.SouthCarolinaBlues.com) is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and its family of companies include more than 20 subsidiaries involved in health insurance services, U.S. DoD health plan and Medicare contracts, and other insurance and employee benefits services.
