NAMI Charleston Area hosts Charleston’s largest mental health event – Oct 8

October 3, 2022

NAMI Charleston Area is hosting Charleston’s largest mental health event of the year, October 8th at Palmetto Islands County Park, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Suicide rates have increased by 78%, inflation has prohibited families from getting mental health support and the aftereffects of the pandemic have taken a toll on the community.

NAMI Charleston seeks to provide the community with free mental health resources, so families are able to get the help they need through classes, educational resources and community support. NAMI Charleston holds NAMI Walks every year seeking donations, awareness and support to fund these initiatives.

NAMI Walks will have 20+ local vendors including other mental health organizations, dog adoptions, food trucks, music and more.

“It’s so important to do this walk. Our community needs the help now more than ever. It’s so important to get funding for these programs, so we are able to reach more of our community. We are thankful that NAMI can spread awareness and resources to those that are struggling with mental health or a mental illness. We appreciate all of the support so far, but our job is not done, we need all of the funding we can get.” states Kelly Troyer, Development Coordinator, NAMI Charleston.

To join and register in person or virtual, visit namiwalks.org/charlestonarea, There is no registration fee, but fundraising is encouraged. Participants raising at least $100 receive an event T-shirt. 100% percent of funds raised support NAMI Charleston Area’s free local mental health programs, resources and services as well as the area of Charleston.
