National Association presents top award to MTC’s Alan Grier for contributions to manufacturing workforce

Midlands Technical College instructor Dr. Alan Grier has received the Innovative ATC Workforce Development Award from the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers (NCATC). The award recognizes outstanding workforce development professionals and industry colleagues who make significant contributions to the education and training of today’s advanced technology and manufacturing workforce.
“When it comes to knowledge and expertise in the profession, Alan Grier is unparalleled,” said MTC President Dr. Ronald L. Rhames. “Dr. Grier’s comprehensive approach to preparing students for the technical workforce puts them in high demand for jobs. He brings honor to the college and something more – a love for teaching technology that makes learning a joy for his students.”
An instructor at Midlands Technical College since the 1980s, Grier has taught every mechanical engineering transfer, mechanical engineering technology, engineering graphics technology, machine tool technology, and mechatronics course offered at Midlands Technical College. His knowledge of advanced manufacturing was key in the creation of the college’s mechatronics program.
“Dr. Grier brings creative thinking to his students, his programs, and Midlands Technical College, and this is why he is richly deserving of this award,” said Alan Clayton, Department Chair for Industrial Technologies.
The NCATC advocates and promotes the use of technology applications that enhance economic and workforce development programs and services.
