NCHS and REHI Forge strong Partnership to inspire students and promote real estate careers

June 13, 2023

North Charleston High School and Real Estate House International (REHI) are pleased to announce a partnership aimed at empowering students and igniting their passion for the real estate industry. Building upon the success of the initial collaboration in February 2022, NCHS and REHI held a career field trip on April 26.

This year, 20 students were given the opportunity to explore the real estate industry up close, instilling a sense of ambition to achieve homeownership. The collaboration has already made a significant impact on the lives of many students, providing them with unique opportunities to explore the world of real estate and envision a brighter future.

In February 2022, the relationship between NCHS and REHI started when Carolyn Southall, a dedicated Career and Technology Education Teacher at the high school, reached out to REHI to propose a career field trip for her students. Eager to inspire the next generation of real estate professionals, REHI wholeheartedly accepted the invitation and hosted the students in April 2022.

The career field trip welcomed a total of 22 students, including six who predominantly spoke Spanish. Although a translator was initially arranged, REHI’s bilingual agent, Alma Lacefield, graciously stepped in to provide translation services throughout the entire event. This act of inclusivity and cultural understanding resonated deeply with the students, particularly those who hailed from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Witnessing a successful Black women-owned real estate company, coupled with the presence of a Latina agent, left an indelible mark on their aspirations.

The day commenced with a tour of the REHI office, allowing the students to immerse themselves in the professional atmosphere and gain a firsthand understanding of the inner workings of a real estate enterprise. The REHI team also shared a presentation on the steps to becoming a real estate agent/Realtor, generating an enthusiastic response from the students who actively participated and posed insightful questions.

To enhance the students’ experience further, REHI arranged a visit to the prestigious “Wando Village,” a luxury new construction neighborhood developed by John Weiland. The highlight of the tour was an awe-inspiring visit to a magnificent waterfront home valued at 2.4 million dollars. Bill Amerson and his dedicated team at Wando Village generously opened their doors and engaged with the students, sharing their knowledge of the industry and providing a glimpse into the remarkable features of the home. The students’ sense of wonder and inspiration was palpable throughout the visit, making a lasting impression on their minds.

As part of their commitment to nurturing the students’ well-being, REHI ensured that the day’s activities were accompanied by a boxed lunch for all attendees. This gesture further reinforced REHI’s dedication to supporting and uplifting young minds through educational and immersive experiences.

The ongoing collaboration between NCHS and REHI exemplifies the power of education, mentorship, and exposure in shaping the lives of young individuals. By providing students with firsthand experiences and invaluable insights into the world of real estate, this partnership aims to inspire, guide, and support aspiring professionals on their path to success.

Both NCHS and REHI express their deep appreciation to all individuals involved in making this collaboration a resounding success, including Carolyn Southall, Alma Lacefield, Bill Amerson, the team at Wando Village, and the management team at The Exchange in Dunes West. Their unwavering commitment and passion have truly made a difference in the lives of these students.
