Nelson Mullins' Dietz Receives Firm's Top Paralegal Award

GREENVILLE, SC – April 18, 2011 – Kellie Dietz, a senior paralegal in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Greenville office, has received the Jean D. Nunn Excellence in Leadership Award recognizing her client service, personal and professional ethics, leadership, and overall contributions to the paralegal program, the Firm, and the legal profession.
Ms. Dietz began working as a paralegal in 1992 and joined Nelson Mullins in February 1993 as a workers’ comp paralegal in the Greenville Office. In 1998, she switched teams and began working as an immigration paralegal alongside partner Buzz Burwell. She was promoted to senior paralegal in 2001, and when the Firm established the position of paralegal coordinator in 2003, she was again promoted.
As a senior paralegal working on the immigration team, she focuses in the area of business immigration and international corporate work. She oversees all aspects of preparing non-immigrant and immigrant visas for business executives, managers and skilled workers coming to the U.S., including applying for labor certification. She also assists the international practice group with corporate work related to foreign companies doing business in the U.S.
In addition to her legal and coordinator responsibilities, this year’s honoree has been extensively involved in issues regarding the paralegal profession throughout her career. She currently serves on the advisory board for the Paralegal Program at Greenville Technical College. She has served two terms as president of South Carolina Upstate Paralegal Association and has acted as a liaison to the South Carolina Alliance of Legal Assistance, Associations.
In 1999, she received the E.W. Mullins, Sr. Pro Bono Award for her work providing immigration assistance to the indigent, and she continues to apply her experience on pro bono.
