New chairman, board members join South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority
March 27, 2012COLUMBIA, SC – March 26, 2012 – Governor Nikki Haley has announcedthe appointment of Christopher N. Union of Charleston as Chairman of thenine-member Board of Commissioners for the South Carolina State HousingFinance and Development Authority (SC State Housing).
Union has numerous years of experience in the wholesale distributionbusiness as well as rea estate and development. Prior to hisappointment, Union was President of World Electrical Supply, a divisionof Sonepar. He is currently involved in the residential real estate andconstruction industry.
Union has served on several boards, both private and non-profit andis currently a member of the Board of Shealy Electrical in Columbia andHeritage Community Services of Charleston.
“As the real estate markets in South Carolina and the nation begin torebound, affordable housing is more important than ever. It isincumbent upon SC State Housing to continue its vital role in oureconomic well-being, bringing jobs and revenues to our state,” saidUnion. “I am delighted that Governor Haley has chosen me to Chair theBoard of SC State Housing. I look forward to working with my fellowBoard members in addressing the affordable housing needs of ourcitizens.”
Union will succeed T. Scott Smith of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Smith wasappointed to the board in2007 and became Chairman in 2008.Other membersrecently appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate areCharles E. Gardner of Greenville; Ernest Magaro, Jr. of Columbia; Kenneth E. Ormand, Jr. of Columbia; and S Robert E. Thomas of Bamberg.
SC State Housing’s Board of Commissioners establishes policy for theagency and oversees it operations. Union’s term will expire in 2014.
