COLUMBIA, SC – Kicking off the new three-show Pops Series at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College, the South Carolina Philharmonic will perform Beloved Broadway on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m., treating audiences to a tour of musical theatre’s brightest hits.
Audiences will be transported to the Broadway stage as gifted conductor Morihiko Nakahara leads the orchestra through the most memorable moments from Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia! andWest Side Story. Fans of last season’s hit The Fantasticks won’t be disappointed – and those tempted to sing along will love the selections from The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, A Chorus Line, Gypsy and Funny Girl chosen by the locally based, nationally renowned orchestra.
Why it’s a must-see:
“You can feel the music in our space. It’s a completely new experience, even for folks who regularly attend the SC Phil’s Masterworks Series at the Koger Center,” says Katie Fox, Executive Director of Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. “You’re so close – you can read the expressions on the musicians’ faces and feel the vibrations of the chords.”
“Audience response to our previous shows with the SC Phil – Holiday Pops, Vivaldi and this summer’s Red, White and Boom patriotic concert – has been overwhelmingly positive,” notes Fox. “Expanding the series gives our audience more of what we know they love, while providing further opportunities for excellent professional musicians based in the Midlands.”
