Paula Thayer named program coordinator for Women in Philanthropy in the Midlands

COLUMBIA, SC – Women in Philanthropy, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and children through active leadership and collective philanthropy, has named Paula Thayer its new program coordinator. Thayer is tasked with increasing awareness and membership in the Women in Philanthropy program throughout the Midlands.

“I have long known the power of collaborative efforts in creating change in our world,” explains Thayer.  Women in Philanthropy, in partnership with the United Way of the Midlands and the Central Carolina Community Foundation, is part of a larger national movement of women taking the active role of philanthropy to seek long-term solutions through leadership, community investment, fundraising, advocacy and mentoring. It is one of 100 similar organizations throughout the country.

“We are very excited to have Paula join our organization in the now full-time WIP coordinator position,” said Mac Bennett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “With her leadership, we will be able to grow WIP and have a greater impact in the community.”

Founded in 2002 by 16 women leaders, Women in Philanthropy is dedicated to transforming the Midlands through active and collective philanthropic investment.  In 12 years, Women in Philanthropy has invested over $850,000 in the community to support women and children. Grants are awarded yearly through a partnership with the United Way of the Midlands and the Central Carolina Community Foundation. As a result of Thayer’s efforts, the organization will have additional funds available for grant-making opportunities to enhance the lives of women and children in our community.

Thayer continues, “The United Way is a great example of collaboration among many agencies to meet the needs of people in the Midlands. I am honored to be a part of making a difference in the lives of women and children through Women in Philanthropy by ‘Living United’.”
