New Region Formed for NHD as Growth Continues
July 30, 2014Community Museum Society, Inc.
The National History Day in South Carolina Program is pleased to announce that there is a new region forming due to rapid growth over the last two years. Horry County will become its own region effective August 1st.
Previously a part of the Pee Dee Region, Horry County will stand as its own region beginning next month with a new Regional Coordinator, Melanie D. Gaddy. The new Instructional Coordinator for Aynor Middle School, Gallivants Ferry, SC, Gaddy has been successfully involved with the NHD program for many years.
The decision was made with advisement from Pee Dee Regional Coordinator, Sherri Moore who has grown the Pee Dee Region into the largest region in the state. “After several years of discussion with Sherri we decided it was the best thing to do for the program. Under Sherri’s guidance the Pee Dee area and particularly Horry County has seen tremendous growth,” said Mary Katherine Marshall, State Coordinator. “Sherri and I both felt that Melanie was a great fit for this position and with the support of Jeanie Dailey, Social Studies Learning Specialist from Horry County Schools, the program will continue to thrive.”
Melanie brings years of experience with NHD to the position as the Regional Coordinator and her students have received recognition all the way through the national level. While attending the National Contest this year at the University of Maryland, Melanie was also able to serve as a Finals Judge.
A graduate of Coastal Carolina University and currently pursuing her masters degree in education, Melanie has been a part of many state level education advisory committees and is National Board Certified.
Please join us in welcoming Melanie to our already super-star Regional Coordinator Team:
