New Richland County tax payment kiosk

Convenient option for taxpayers is first of its kind in the state

Taxpayers in Lower Richland have a convenient new way to search for their bills and make payments on time. On Wednesday, Richland County Treasurer Kendra L. Dove celebrated the launch of a full-service kiosk for the payment of County tax bills.

The ribbon cutting at the Magistrate’s Office at 5245 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins, brought together local leaders and state officials alongside community representatives to mark a step forward for convenience and efficiency in Richland County. The payment kiosk, the first of its kind in the state, features a touch screen that lets taxpayers search for their bills, make a credit card payment, and immediately obtain a paid receipt. For users who need assistance, a phone line is also available.

“You do not get to choose to deal with the County,” said Treasurer Dove, whose office spearheaded the kiosk launch. “People need to communicate with government; therefore, we want to make it as easy as possible to interact with our office by providing this new service.”

The payment kiosk will only accept full payments and is available during business hours at the Magistrate’s Office: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. While the kiosk provides taxpayers in Lower Richland a new, easily accessible option, people can still pay their balances in other ways:

  • In person at the County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St., Columbia
  • Online at www.richlandcountysc.gov (credit card or e-check only)
  • At one of six Synovus Bank drop-off locations around the County (no credit card payments accepted)
  • By mail to: Richland County Treasurer, P.O. Box 11947, Columbia, SC 29211 (checks only)

The upgraded payment option illustrates the County’s larger effort to provide services to high-growth areas of the County. Richland County plans to open two additional kiosk locations Wednesday, Oct. 22:

  • Ballentine Community Center, 1009 Bickley Road, Irmo
  • North Springs Park Community Center, 1320 Clemson Road, Columbia

“Government should never be a barrier, but a bridge to serve citizens,” Dove said. “Because the County cannot have facilities throughout the entire region, we are finding partnerships with other government entities to meet taxpayers where they are.”
