New Year, New Name: Original Six Foundation renames “My First Library” to “My O6 Library”

January 6, 2026

The Original Six Foundation is ringing in the new year with an exciting update to one of its most impactful literacy initiatives. Beginning in 2026, the Foundation’s My First Library program will officially be known as My O6 Library.

While the name has changed, the heart of the program remains the same. My O6 Library continues to provide South Carolina kindergarten students in rural and under-resourced schools the opportunity to choose 10 age-appropriate books at no cost, helping them build personal home libraries and foster a lifelong love of reading.

The updated name reflects the program’s strong connection to the Original Six brand and its continued growth across the state. In 2025 alone, the program distributed 35,000 books to 3,500 students in 44 schools during My O6 Library book fairs held throughout South Carolina in May.

“As we grow, it’s important that our programs are clearly connected to the mission and story of the Original Six,” said Kara Gormley Meador, Executive Director of the Original Six Foundation. “These book fairs are often a child’s first opportunity to choose books of their own—and the impact is lasting.”

Growth remains a key focus in the year ahead. In 2026, My O6 Library is proud to welcome three Anderson County Schools for the first time, along with additional school partners to be announced in the coming weeks.

Businesses, civic groups, and community organizations are invited to support this fun and meaningful way to give back. Supporters can host a My O6 Library book drive or donate books directly to the program using this teacher wishlist: https://tinyurl.com/yc6rdnuy.
