Nichole Davis named SC Bar Young Lawyer of the Year

May 4, 2016

COLUMBIA, SC – Nichole Davis of Irmo has been named Young Lawyer of the Year by the SC Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD). The annual Young Lawyer of the Year Award recognizes young lawyers who most exemplify excellence in practicing law and public service.

Davis earned her Juris Doctor in 2011 from the University of South Carolina School of Law and serves as an attorney for the Richland County Department of Social Services.

“Nichole works long hours, has to deal with the frustration of others and her own exhaustion—all with very high stakes involved: the life, health and well-being of children in crisis,” said Julia Miller, a Judicial Law Clerk at the South Carolina Administrative Law Court. “No matter how difficult, long, sad or unbelievable a day can be for an attorney in her position, Nichole is always ready to go full speed ahead the next day.”

Within the YLD, Davis has been instrumental in the development of the Diversity Lunch Series, which is designed to address diversity issues in the legal profession and career opportunities for minority law students. In August 2015, the SC Bar Young Lawyers Division won a first place American Bar Association YLD Award of Achievement in the Diversity category for these efforts.

“I am continuously impressed with Nichole’s enthusiasm for the law, her professional demeanor and her commitment to civic involvement in her community,” said Cashida Okeke, an attorney at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. “She has served in several leadership roles, both through her employment and her involvement in civic organizations, where she has made excellent strides towards mentoring law students, young lawyers and even seasoned professionals.”

Davis was presented with the award on April 16 and will be recognized during the Bar’s House of Delegates meeting on May 19.
