The Historic Charleston Foundation is an organization that was founded in 1947 with a broad mission of historic preservation of one of the most unique cities in North America. Today, historic preservation has evolved into more than a movement to simply save historic buildings. The Foundation has broadened its scope into balancing the needs of modern society with protecting the sensitive fabric of the historic district.
The Foundation owns and operates two house museums, the Aiken-Rhett House and the Nathaniel Russell House.
