Nonprofit Ponds Conservancy to hold presentation covering history of land at the headwaters of the Ashley River

Attend a presentation covering the history of the land & people who have called The Ponds home across time
Sunday, June 16th at 2:00 PM, join Charles Philips of Brockington and Associates, one of the principal researchers into the history of the lands which comprise The Ponds, as he gives a presentation about The Ponds’ history. The event is free, and reservations are required.
Nearly one half of the The Ponds is under a protective easement and is located in the Great Cypress Swamp along three natural lakes that together form the headwaters of the Ashley River in Dorchester County. From indigeneous Americans to colonial settlers and early Americans to 21st century families, many generations have called this land home. Significant archaeological exploration has taken place on the property to document each era’s impact on the land and to comprehend each population’s history.
The talk, presented by The Ponds Conservancy, takes place at the historically significant and restored Schulz-Lotz Farmhouse, 326 Hundred Oaks Pkwy, Summerville, SC 29483. The Ponds Conservancy
The Ponds Conservancy, a not-for-profit community organization, is a component of The Ponds community. The Conservancy’s charter calls for the organization to “enhance the quality of life and sense of community” at The Ponds through their “educational programs, social events, cultural endeavors and environmental stewardship.” The Conservancy manages and guards the historic home, important archaeological sites and more 1,000 acres of open space as well as a wildlife refuge, National Register of Historic Places eligible archaeological sites, walking and running trails, and parks at The Ponds community where Kolter Homes is the developer and builder.
