Noted golf course architect Clyde Johnston joins Eagle Cove Development Team

MANNING, SC – Clyde Johnston Designs of Hilton Head Island, S.C., has joined the development team for the master-planned Eagle Cove community in Manning, South Carolina. The acclaimed golf course architecture firm will be responsible for redesigning the championship 18-hole Eagle Cove golf course, formerly known as the Royal Oaks course.

Company president Clyde Johnston has a compelling portfolio of golf course designs across the southeast, including the-award-winning Glen Dornoch Golf Links fronting the Intracoastal Waterway in Little River, S.C., and Cherry Blossom Golf Club located in Lexington, Ky., and for eight straight years rated the #1 Course You Can Play in the State by Golfweek Magazine. Additionally, Johnston’s design of Old South Golf Links near Hilton Head Island was voted one of Golf Digest’s Top 10 New Public Courses in the United States. 

A former president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Johnston is known for designing playable courses that place a premium on aesthetics, design balance and captivating shot values. 

When asked about designing courses in the Carolinas, Johnston said, “There’s a lot of variety, from the mountains to the shores in South Carolina. It is diverse terrain from one end of the state to the other and that creates uniqueness in every design or renovation. The course at Eagle Cove will be a memorable test for players of all skill levels. “

Eagle Cove is a 420-acre master-planned, multigenerational community located near Manning, South Carolina in Clarendon County. The five-phase project, when completed, will have single and multi-family housing, golf club, hotel, onsite dining, as well as independent and assisted living facilities for the elderly.
