Now it’s time to rethink your weekend denim
September 25, 2015By Brian Maynor
Last week we looked at the original work fabric, denim, and while it’s appearance has changed over the years the fact that it is still around and as loved as ever is a true testament to the functionality and durability of this wonder fabric.
A staple all year, but now that we have officially welcomed fall, it’s time to look at some of the hottest ways to update your weekend denim collection. Here are a few ways to reshape and re-saturate your fall denim looks:
1. The Jean Jacket. A versatile layering piece on workdays becomes a perfect standalone piece on the weekends. Considering the drastic weather changes we see from morning to night, the classic jean jacket is light enough to carry without adding tons of extra weight and thick enough to keep you warm by breaking the breeze.
2. Rethink Indigo. While dark uniform washes have been the ‘dress up’ denim option for years, now it’s all about black and grey denim, especially jeans. It’s amazing how much you can change your look by changing the color of your jeans. Whether you choose an all-black look or a series of tonal greys you will be right on trend and still as comfortable as ever.
3. Be a Shape Shifter. We all know the perfect pair of jeans hug all the right places and hide the rest, but this season shake things up by tweaking your fit. If that makes you a bit nervous, the safest place to start is with the leg. It could be as simple as going for a shorter length to showcase some awesome shoes or relaxing your fit for a more oversized feel.
4. Perfect Partners. Denim is great on its own, but it is an all-star when paired with two very key fall pieces:
a. Boots. It doesn’t matter if you choose laced-up combat boots or a pair of square heel booties; boots are the go-to shoe for fall.
b. Motor-Vest. Another godsend for tricky fall weather, the moto-vest is the perfect blend of edge and refinement. Another bonus is that you can wear it well into winter by layering over or under it.
Where would be without denim and jeans? Personally I never want to find out. It is undeniably the one fabric you can practically live-in that never has to try too hard to be cool.
