OLLI at Furman opens fall registration

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Furman University will offer more than 130 classes for senior adults this fall when online registration opens Thursday, Aug. 14, at 8 a.m. Classes begin on Sept. 8. Membership to OLLI is required before registering for classes. Annual OLLI memberships are available for $65. Individual courses are $35 to $50, depending on length. Classes run three to four weeks, or five to nine weeks and meet for roughly 90 minutes between 9 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., once each week.
Most sessions will take place on the Furman University campus. There are also Zoom offerings, and some classes will be hosted at Rolling Green Village in Greenville.
Known for having one of the largest membership rosters in the U.S., OLLI at Furman serves more than 2,500 lifelong learners in the Upstate with volunteer-led courses ranging from culinary arts, woodcarving, and pickleball to foreign languages, history, and politics. “OLLI enriches the lives of senior adults and retirees in the Greenville area,” said Nancy Kennedy, OLLI director. “I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard members say OLLI at Furman is one of the reasons they relocated here. They are enthusiastic, engaged lifelong learners. Many take multiple classes each semester. It’s something they do for themselves.”
Kennedy said the best part of OLLI at Furman is there’s no preparation or homework required – just an eagerness to stay mentally and physically active and make new friends.
