One Columbia for Arts and Culture welcomes new artists to Downtown Garage Studio
November 6, 2025One Columbia for Arts and Culture has announced the second cohort of artists-in-residence at theĀ Garage Studio, an innovative workspace for emerging artists located in a repurposed police substation. The new residentsāBrittany Lyon,Ā Jackie Bobo, andĀ Sam Goodmanāwill utilize the downtown studio to advance their creative practices and contribute to the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.
The Garage Studio is a key initiative born from a partnership betweenĀ One ColumbiaĀ and theĀ City of Columbia, which provides the space at no cost. Support fromĀ AgFirst Farm Credit BankĀ and theĀ Unum GroupĀ was instrumental in furnishing the studio and providing essential tools for the artists.
The incoming cohort brings a diverse range of artistic styles and perspectives. Brittany Lyon explores connection through oils, acrylics, and charcoal, drawing inspiration from the natural world and her faith. Jackie Bobo uses bold colors and “Happy Spooky” motifs in her acrylic paintings to explore themes of authenticity, belonging, and self-acceptance. Sam Goodman channels emotion through oil painting, drawing, and printmaking, creating scenes based on specific personal moments and feelings.
“We are excited to welcome our second cohort of artists to the Garage Studio,” said Xavier Blake, Executive Director ofĀ One Columbia. “This partnership with the City of Columbia is a great example of how we can repurpose space to support our vibrant arts community. I look forward to seeing these new artists grow and contribute to our cityās creative landscape and economy.”
