O’Neal supports STEAM efforts by participating in iMAGINE Upstate
March 29, 2016GREENVILLE, SC – O’Neal, Inc., a Greenville-based integrated design and construction firm, will feature an experimental engagement at iMAGINE Upstate on Saturday, April 2 to show students how technology is used in the design and construction industry.
iMAGINE Upstate is a weeklong celebration of events showcasing science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) ending in a street festival designed to encourage K-12 students across the Upstate and promote STEAM based learning. Engineering companies from across the Upstate hold booths to create conversation among students who aspire to pursue a career in a STEAM related field. The festival aims to address the continuing challenge of education and workforce development in the Upstate.
“It is exciting to be able to play a role in inspiring young minds.” said Kevin Bean, president and CEO of O’Neal, Inc. “We believe that STEAM education is the key to our economic future, which is why we contribute 1% of all profits towards STEAM efforts.”
O’Neal will have a booth where they will show students how they are using technology to help their clients plan, design and construct manufacturing plants. Technology such as building information modeling (BIM) involves creating and using an intelligent 3D model to design, visualize, simulate and collaborate.
“The impact of the iMAGINE festival is huge,” said Brian Gallagher, director of marketing for O’Neal, Inc. “It’s so inspiring to see young minds get excited about learning. They are the future of this industry and we are proud to help make a difference in the Upstate.”
The acronym STEAM generally refers to a science based curriculum policy in schools. The structured curriculum are connected and said to be essential for student success in the real world. By linking together the four components, the goal is to create links between all areas of study in order to enrich the student learning experience.
