Opening of The Bracky Comer Infant Center at A Child’s Haven

March 18, 2016

The highly anticipated Bracky Comer Infant Center located within A Child’s Haven will be opening mid-March, at 20 Martin Drive. Until this time, A Child’s Haven has only been able to serve children from ages two to five.

A Child’s Haven treats pre-school age children who are developmentally delayed because of limited resources, abuse, or neglect, and provides support and education for their families. The infant center is named in memory of Charlene Comer’s husband. She said, “Being able to serve at-risk infants has been a long time dream of ours. Bracky was always committed to, and had a passion for, the children treated at ACH.” Regulations prohibited the intake of infants at the former location on Rutherford Road because of the inefficient floor plan that did not have direct access to the outside.

The dream to provide intervention starting in infancy began to take reality after Bracky’s death in 2004. Two very close friends of his donated generous gifts in his memory. Charlene Comer asked if those funds could be designated to the infant center being planned as part of a new building. The new main center for A Child’s Haven is serving the children, families, and staff well. The ability to now expand services to infants, 12 weeks to 18 months, strengthens the impact of therapeutic treatment provided at A Child’s Haven.
