Over $400,000 raised to aid South Carolina students in rural and underserved communities.

The Original Six (O6) Foundation raised over $400,000 to support educational programs for South Carolina students living in rural and underserved communities at its annual O6 Golfing for Youth Charity Classic Tournament and Founder’s Dinner, setting a fundraising record for the event. Over 80 business and community leaders from across the southeast came together to take part in the 5th annual tournament held at the River Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

“We are grateful for all the people and organizations that came together to make this happen. These dollars come at a critical time for the Original Six Foundation as our O6 Afterschool and My First Library programs are seeing significant growth,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder, and chair of the Original Six Foundation.

In addition to helping fund O6 Afterschool programming for over 700 students in nine South Carolina counties, proceeds from the tournament will sponsor over 3,100 students through the O6 My First Library program. Throughout the month of May, the Original Six Foundation will provide nearly 32,000 books for rising 1st grade students in rural and underserved counties.

Sponsors who made the event possible include: The Boeing Company, US Brick Company, Collum’s Lumber Products and Nucor.

“Every dollar raised translates into students served,” said Kara Gormley Meador, executive director of the Original Six Foundation. “The support will allow the O6 to continue to expand programs and reach some of the state’s most vulnerable students” Meador said.
