Palmetto Health names Timothy Depp, M.D., 2016 Resident Physician of the Year

Timothy Depp, M.D., Emergency Medicine resident, was named the 2016 Palmetto Health Resident Physician of the Year at the annual resident and fellow graduation.The award recognizes residents’ medical knowledge and abilities, as well as their commitment to Palmetto Health’s values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity and teamwork. Depp received a plaque, a certificate and $2,500.

Depp is a chief resident for the Emergency Medicine residency program, president of the Palmetto Health Resident Council and a leader in the local chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He was nominated by Thomas Cook, M.D., program director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, and was chosen by the Richland Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees.

Cook said, “It’s hard to imagine a person who has sought out an education in health care that focuses so much on compassion, leadership and human rights, on both a local stage and global platform. Dr. Timothy Depp is a unique, caring and wonderful man.”

Six other residents nominated for the award include Brett Bentley, M.D., Family Medicine; Dustin Huynh, M.D., Surgery; Callie Meeks, M.D., OB/GYN; Kristen Nathe, M.D., Orthopedics; Mary Beth Seegars, M.D., Internal Medicine and Heather Staples, M.D., Pediatrics. Each nominee received a certificate of recognition and a $250 cash award.
