PalmettoPride to host 19th Annual Francis Marion National Forest Cleanup
January 7, 2026Since 2007, PalmettoPride, in partnership with the US Forest Service, has led an annual cleanup at Francis Marion National Forest, one of South Carolina’s two national forests.
Thousands of residents visit the forest each year to enjoy its trails, rifle ranges, and recreation areas—resources that are both environmentally and economically important to the state. While litter in the forest’s natural areas has decreased over time, trash along the roadways that cut through the forest continues to pose a challenge.
To build on this work, PalmettoPride expanded its efforts in 2024 by hosting the first cleanup at Sumter National Forest. In 2025, 397 volunteers removed 19,960 pounds of trash and tires from South Carolina’s national forests. Supplies will be provided.
To participate, volunteers must pre-register at palmettopride.org/events.
