Partial Closure Of Swamp Rabbit Trail To Begin January 25

January 20, 2011

City to spend up to four weeks on Reedy River bank stabilization project

GREENVILLE, SC – January 20, 2011 –  The City of Greenville will close part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Cleveland Park beginning Tuesday, January 25 for up to four weeks.  The closure is necessary to complete approximately 300 linear feet of Reedy River bank stabilization.

The trail, depending on the progression of construction activities, may be open on weekends. An alternative route that will utilize park access stairways, hiking paths and Woodland Way Circle will be marked, allowing trail users to bypass the construction zone.  The bank stabilization work will ensure the trail is not undermined and will improve the safety of trail users.  Construction will be completed in a manner that will minimize inconveniences caused to trail users. A map of the project is included for reference.

About the Swamp Rabbit Trail
The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a multi-jurisdictional, 14-mile pathway that is used by hundreds of thousands of walkers, joggers and bicyclists every year. The greenway trail, which passes underneath Main Street and the Liberty Bridge as it traverses through downtown Greenville and Falls Park, connects neighborhoods to destinations like the City of Travelers Rest, Furman University, Cleveland Park and Greenville Technical College, among other places. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is popular among recreational users, but also serves as a vital component of the city’s transportation network. It is the ‘spine’ of a greenway trail system identified in the City’s Trails & Greenways Master Plan that was adopted in 2008.
