Partnership for Safe Water: Spartanburg Water water treatment facilities ensure superior quality
April 4, 2018Both of Spartanburg Water’s drinking water treatment plants have been honored for excellence in drinking water quality. The Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Committee of the South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association presented the awards to Landrum and R.B. Simms plants at the recent South Carolina Environmental Conference.
Both facilities exceed rigorous program requirements for the Partnership’s Directors Award for 17 and 12 consecutive years, respectively, maintaining consistent high-quality performance and commitment to optimizing water system operations, officials said.
The R.B. Simms plant in Spartanburg was recognized for achieving a longevity milestone that only three drinking water treatment plants in South Carolina have achieved to date. The Partnership’s water treatment plant program has a subscriber base of more than 200 utilities with more than 400 plants, but only a small number earn the Director’s Award, with even fewer earning 10 and 15 year designations, officials said.
“While we certainly celebrate both of our plants receiving recognition from the Partnership for Safe Water, our number one goal is always to provide our customers with superior quality water,” said Ken Tuck, Spartanburg Water’s Director of Water Treatment.
The award criteria is based on an evaluation that follows the American Water Works Association’s “Self-Assessment Guide for Surface Water Treatment Plant Optimization.” A completion report is submitted by organizations and then reviewed by a team of utility peers. In order to achieve consecutive honors, the facility must supply data that meets the stringent requirements of the program, in addition to a written report that demonstrates that the facility continues to actively support the goals of the program.
