Party Down For The Playground Raises Over $30,000!
June 8, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – June 8, 2012 – Over 500 people came out to help raise money to build a community park at the Greenville Downtown Airport in South Carolina.
This was the park’s first big fundraising event and it went great! The donated food was tasty. The band got the crowd shagging. It appeared that all had a great time, stated Joe Frasher, Airport Director of the Greenville Downtown Airport.
Most things were donated but we had to wait for the bills to come in so we could have a clear picture of the financial success of our efforts, said Frasher. We are thrilled to announce it raised approximately $30,000! Frasher exclaimed.
I knew that Greenville had many incredible, active and community minded businesses, stated Frasher. But I was amazed at how many people got behind this project to help make it such a success, Frasher said. All the food for the event was donated by: Papa John’s Pizza, Jason’s Deli, The Phoenix-Greenville’s Inn, Chief’s Wings, Runway Cafe, Chicora Alley, Table 301, Krispy Kreme, Exceptional Caterers, Pita House and Chick-fil-A. Pepsi donated all the non-alcoholic drinks and Budweiser of Greenville helped us out by providing the first 5 kegs of beer! said Frasher.

The presenting sponsor for the event was McKinney Dodge. Other sponsors included: Panagakos Asphalt Paving, McLeod Landscape Architects, South Carolina Bank & Trust, International Plastics, Gregory Pest Control and The Law Offices of Matt Kappel. Over 130 items were donated by individuals and companies for the silent auction that raised over $12,000! Frasher said. Members of the Round Towners, a local service organization that is very experienced in helping with events, came out in force and kept the event running smoothly, Frasher said. We could not have done it without them and the countless other volunteers who joined in the effort.” The money raised will provide for the completion of the first phase of the park project which includes grading, irrigation, grass seeding and fencing.
Greenville Jet Center has hosted many events during my 53-year career here, stated Hank Brown, Owner of Greenville Jet Center. I don’t think we have ever hosted a better event for a better cause. It was perfect! added Brown.
This exciting park project will be a great addition to our community for many years to come. It makes all the effort worthwhile and very rewarding! stated Maria Jose Lehman, one of the volunteers who helped plan the event.
The event, which was in an airplane hangar, took place on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Legends of Beach performed. Beach Bob Ross volunteered his talents as the event announcer and promoted the event on his local radio show.
