Pawmetto Lifeline receives grant from Grey Muzzle Organization

July 16, 2018

Senior dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces Pawmetto Lifeline as the recipient of a $7,500 annual grant to provide care for at-risk senior dogs in South Carolina. Pawmetto Lifeline is one of 66 welfare groups in 30 states which were chosen from more than 300 applicants to receive a grant to help senior dogs.

“In the shelter, we have seen an increase of the intake of senior dogs needing care for complicated but treatable diseases,” said Denise Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer of Pawmetto Lifeline. “The grant funds allow Pawmetto Lifeline to pull more senior dogs to provide them with the medical care they must have to maintain a high quality of life.”

The Grey Muzzle Organization grant allows us to help pets like Babette, an 11 year old toy poodle dog that was dropped off at a municipal shelter because the owner did not have the means to treat the dog for the multiple health issues. Babette needed a great deal of medical care, including extensive dental work, removal of a malignant mass and the treatment of a serious heart condition. All those issues have been treated; she is on a healthy diet and has stabilized. Babette has two foster moms who love her very much.

Over the past decade, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided nearly $1.5 million in grants to support its vision of “a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.”

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like Pawmetto Lifeline make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” Grey Muzzle’s Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. “Many senior dogs in the Midlands of South Carolina are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of Pawmetto Lifeline.”

The national nonprofit, The Grey Muzzle Organization, improves the lives of at-risk senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescue organizations, sanctuaries, and other nonprofit groups nationwide.

Babette is a happy, thriving 11 year old toy poodle with a new leash on life.
