PetCure Oncology brings cutting edge cancer treatment tech to S.C.

October 4, 2017

PetCure Oncology, the national leader in radiation oncology for pets, and SCVSEC have announced a partnership that will bring potentially life-saving cancer care to pet owners in and around South Carolina.

PetCure Oncology at South Carolina Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care (SCVSEC) will open in November, bringing advanced radiation oncology with the ability to deliver potentially life-saving radiation therapy to pets in the Carolinas and surrounding areas.

This facility is the eighth center in PetCure’s national network and will operate in partnership with SCVSEC in Columbia.

PetCure Oncology is committed to advancing the standard of cancer care for dogs, cats and other companion animals in the United States and is proud to continue the strategic collaboration with Varian Medical Systems, the world’s leading manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating and managing cancer.

“Through our continued collaboration with Varian, we are revolutionizing cancer care for pets,” said CEO Scott Milligan. “The South Carolina facility can now provide cancer care on par with leading oncology providers in human medicine. It’s an exciting time to be in veterinary medicine.”

The Columbia, SC facility includes the second deployment of Varian’s latest and most innovative equipment, the Halcyon™ treatment system, which is used to deliver radiation therapy to cancer patients. This will provide pet owners and veterinarians in the Carolinas access to cancer care technology at the forefront of the industry.

It is the second Halcyon unit in veterinary medicine and among the first installed in any hospital – for humans or pets. The original unit was installed in San Jose, California at the PetCure Oncology facility at SAGE Centers for Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Care’s Campbell location.

Halcyon was designed to revolutionize radiation therapy through innovation in key areas such as quality of care and operational excellence. The end result is best-in-class radiation therapy, including RapidArc® technology and on-board imaging, with unprecedented ease-of-use and operational efficiency.
