GREENVILLE, SC – The South Carolina Staffing Association, the voice of the staffing industry, honored Phillips Staffing founder and Chairman Sam B. Phillips with its 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award at the SC Staffing Association’s annual Awards Dinner and Banquet on March 25 at the Columbia, South Carolina Capital City Club.
“On behalf of the staffing companies and offices here in South Carolina and on behalf of all of the thousands of associates we employ, we believe that it is because of leaders like Sam Phillips that our industry continues to create and sustain thousands of good-paying, quality jobs for residents of the Palmetto State,” said SC Staffing Association President John Byrnes. “For decades, Sam Phillips has stood tall for job creation in South Carolina, creating opportunity for thousands of families and helping to keep our state economy vibrant and growing.”
A resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives honoring Mr. Phillips and his son Blanton, the current President and CEO of Phillips Staffing, along with the entire Phillips Staffing organization for their decades of contribution to the state’s residents and economy was presented to Mr. Phillips by state Representative Mark N. Willis of Fountain Inn.
Also honored at the Annual Dinner and Banquet was state Senator Kevin Bryant, who was named the SCSA 2015 Legislator of the Year recipient for his contributions.
Mr. Phillips, who founded today’s Phillips Staffing in 1968, has grown the organization from a one-person company housed in a bedroom-turned-office in his home into one of the Southeast’s leading independent staffing organizations with 10 offices and employing nearly 2,800 associates at clients across South Carolina and the Southeast on any given day.
A graduate of Furman University, Mr. Phillips is credited with revolutionizing the staffing industry by having employers pay for his service instead of unemployed workers, a business model that is now the standard for the industry. He also was instrumental in recruiting minor league professional baseball to Greenville and has dedicated significant time and effort to support many civic causes including the Meyer Center and Boy Scouts of America.
Today’s Phillips Staffing provides staffing, professional recruiting, payroll and human resource solutions to the manufacturing, logistics, consumer products, aerospace, pharma and other industries. Phillips Staffing is a recognized regional leader in helping businesses measure workplace skills of employees and job applicants, helping predict candidate performance, talents and fit utilizing technologies including the national WorkKeys assessment tool.
