Pope Flynn public finance attorney Lawrence Flynn appointed to Memory Hold the Door committee of South Carolina Bar

September 4, 2024

Lawrence Flynn, a public finance attorney and member of the management team with Pope Flynn, a Columbia-based law firm concentrating in public finance and governmental law, has been appointed to the South Carolina Bar’s Memory Hold the Door committee. Established in 1958, the committee was formed to “recognize and honor distinguished deceased members of the South Carolina Bar” in part through contributions to law school endowments, as well as an annual ceremony. In 2024, the 17,000 member South Carolina Bar honored 10 lawyers through the committee.

“I’ve attended the annual event several times over the years,” said Lawrence Flynn, “and it’s a somber ceremony, but also one of my favorite South Carolina Bar events. There are some incredible lawyers who have practiced in South Carolina and I have always appreciated learning their stories. In looking at the names of people who have been honored by the committee over the past sixty years, you can see a history of South Carolina law, and I’m very grateful to be a part of the committee responsible for telling some of that history.”

Flynn is Vice-President and board member of SC Thrive, a non-profit for individuals and families in crisis that helps bring them to independence and stability through training and providing access to a number of state and private programs. He is also a member of the Duke University Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee and a council member of the Government Law section of the South Carolina Bar. Previously Flynn served as the treasurer and a board member of the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation. Flynn is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina, Leadership Columbia, and The Riley Institute on Diversity, and was listed in Columbia Business Monthly’s “Best & Brightest 35 and under” for 2016.

Flynn graduated from Duke University with a BA in history, then received his JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL).
