Popular Subscription Box Trend Comes to Lowcountry with Launch of Charleston Epicurean

April 11, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – April 14, 2104 – With everything from the latest fashions to pet treats now available by monthly subscription, the subscription box model is taking the retail industry by storm. Capitalizing on Charleston’s culinary reputation, entrepreneur and longtime marketer Laura Angermeier is bringing the trend to the Holy City with the launch of Charleston Epicurean.

Subscription boxes allow consumers to purchase a box of themed goods selected by the company that arrives once a month. Stitch Fix, for example, sends recommended fashions to women based on their style preferences, budget and size, while Bark Box sends monthly treats for your pooch.

Charleston Epicurean will compile a box of four to six locally-made culinary items each month to ship to subscribers. Every box is unique and a surprise to its customers with full-size items, such as olive oil, fried peanuts, artisan marshmallows, Lowcountry grits, Charleston gold rice and praline pecans, included. The boxes cost $35/month, including shipping, with options for one-time delivery or 3-, 6- or 12-month subscriptions.

Charleston has a very diverse community of local artisans whose food products are unique to the Lowcountry, says Angermeier. Charleston Epicurean is a cool way to have a piece of Charleston delivered to your door each month and for locals to discover unique goods made in their own city. We like to describe our boxes as a tasting smorgasbord.

A recent article in Inc. Magazine highlighted the popularity of subscription boxes and noted, …startup subscription sites are homing in on consumers’ ever narrowing interests and the seemingly universal love of all things homemade.

Angermeier, who has long helped area companies, such as Sal Parco’s Dine With Sal restaurant group, build their online reputation through social media marketing, plans to generate buzz about the service through online outreach and media coverage in targeted outlets.
