Portions of Riverfront Park will be temporarily closed for two successive weeks in March by Columbia Parks & Recreation Department
March 6, 2025The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Departments advises that portions of Riverfront Park remain temporarily closed through Friday, March 7 and the following week on Monday, March 10 through Friday, March 14, for public safety during heavy construction as part of the ongoing canal recovery project.
During the above listed dates the park will be closed during the day and evenings.
The closure will affect Riverfront Park North at 4122 River Drive and Riverfront Park South at 312 Laurel. The park will be open on the weekend of March 8 and 9. Columbia Parks and Recreation Department encourages everyone to visit the Saluda Riverwalk at 650 Candi Lane as an alternative.
As part of the preconstruction project, contractors will be removing trees from the canal embankment at the site of the Resilient Water Supply project. Columbia Water will begin construction of a new intake in the Broad River, providing up to 80 million gallons per day of supply and pumping capacity, in the near future.
During this closure, guests can still access the restrooms during regular park hours of operation at Riverfront South, 312 Laurel Street.
