Presbyterian College Chamber Winds & Wind Ensemble to Present “Hot & Cold” Concert on November 13

November 9, 2025

The Presbyterian College Chamber Winds and Wind Ensemble will present their fall concert, Hot & Cold, on Thursday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Belk Auditorium. The performance, conducted by Dr. Giovani Briguente, is free, open to the public, and welcomes guests in casual attire.

Hot & Cold invites listeners to experience music not only through emotion, but through sensation. Music can be happy or sad, calming or energetic, frightening or courageous—but can it reach beyond feelings and touch our senses? Dr. Briguente believes it can. From melodies that soothe to harmonies that spark, music has the power to evoke pain, pleasure, warmth, chill, and everything in between. This concert aims to expand the audience’s musical experience into the realm of touch, exploring temperature and texture through sound.

The program reflects this concept through a vivid progression of musical “temperatures” and sensory impressions:

PC Chamber Winds
French Suite No. 2 – J.S. Bach
Featuring movements that move from tepid to cold to hot, setting the sensory theme of the evening.

Wind Ensemble Program
Dramatic Prelude – Smith
A piece that warms quickly, cools to a breeze, and then surges back with returning heat.
Yorkshire Ballad – Barnes
A gentle, lukewarm ballad that slowly blooms into perfect warmth.
Jet Stream – Ziek
A brisk and forceful work with temperature shifts similar to Dramatic Prelude, but with an aggressive edge.
Little Acorns – Broughton
A piece that simmers like boiling water over fluctuating heat, never cooling, reaching moments of surprising intensity.
Brazilian Dance – Silva
A journey from nostalgic cold to a comforting, familiar warmth that radiates without burning.

Through these selections, Hot & Cold offers a unique sensory and emotional voyage—one that captures the full range of human experience through transcendent musical expression.

The community is invited to enjoy this imaginative and engaging performance showcasing the artistry of Presbyterian College’s student musicians.
