Principal Appointed To Workforce Development Board

COLUMBIA, SC — Building a better workforce and improving job placement services have been of interest to Bobby Cunningham for some time. Cunningham is principal of the W.R. Rogers Adult, Continuing & Technology Education Center in Richland Two. As principal, he works daily to prepare students for the workforce. His diligence has led to his recent appointment to the Midlands Workforce Development Board. According to its website, the board is seeking ways to build a comprehensive and seamless workforce development service delivery system. Cunningham says he is happy to lend his voice and helping hands to this mission.
“I am humbled and looking forward to serving the Midlands community and facilitating the development of a 21st century workforce,” said Cunningham. He envisions, “the most urgent task for the board will be establishing foundations for implementation of the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014.” The goal of WIOA is to match skilled workers with the right jobs and give them the tools necessary to be successful.
Cunningham was named principal of the W.R. Rogers Center in 2011. Since then he has received several accolades, including winning the Goodwill Partners in Power of Work (2012) and South Carolina Association of School Administrator’s Education Director of the Year (2013) awards. Earlier this year, he was elected to the South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors Board.
Some of the classes and programs offered at the W.R. Rogers Center are high school diploma and GED preparation, WorkKeys, computers and English as a Second Language.
