Providence Hospitals Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation
May 13, 2009COLUMBIA, SC – May 12, 2009 – Providence Hospitals recently received full Cycle II accreditation with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPS). The Society of Chest Pain Centers’ goal is to reduce mortality from heart attacks by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a heart attack and to reduce the time that it takes to receive treatment.
Providence Hospitals’ accreditation as a chest pain center goes above and beyond the required standards for a Chest Pain Emergency department to include a PCI designation to treat blocked arteries of the heart. This designation means that within minutes of arriving at our Emergency department with a heart attack, our goal is to get you into a cardiac cath lab to receive an intervention, says Vice President of Cardiovascular Services Stephen Creech.
Dr. Lanneau Lide, a Providence cardiologist with the South Carolina Heart Center, believes the reduced treatment times will benefit patients. According to Dr. Lide, “Research has consistently proven that time is of the essence when it comes to saving heart muscle. The faster a patient can receive treatment, the greater the chance of a favorable outcome.”
Providence Hospitals has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
