Public asked to participate in Affordable Housing Survey

September 14, 2016

In March, the City of Greenville retained neighborhood planning firm czb to complete an Affordable Housing Assessment and Strategy. The scope of work includes an assessment of the current affordable housing situation and the financial resources and programs currently in place, as well as a review of previously completed affordable housing studies and master plans. czb is also charged with developing a strategy that includes creative financing and planning tools and incentives to generate community-wide support for affordable housing, increase the production of affordable housing and protect long-term affordability.

Concurrently, the City established a citizen advisory committee comprised of City Council representatives, neighborhood leaders, housing providers, lenders and a variety of other community partners from the public and private sectors that have an interest in affordable housing. The advisory committee’s responsibility is to monitor czb’s work and help formulate the policies and the planning and financial tools that will be included in the strategy.

The advisory committee has met regularly over the past six months, both with the consultant team and independently, and as part of its efforts, has developed a community survey designed to gauge public awareness of the need for affordable housing and solicit citizen input. The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete and responses are confidential. Feedback received through the survey will be used to guide the committee’s and the consultant’s efforts.

The survey will be available at http://www.questionpro.com/t/ALCNSZVAHz until mid-October. Paper copies of the survey are also available in the Community Development Division on the 6th floor of City Hall.
