Publix Signs on as presenting sponsor for annual Light the Lake

October 27, 2019

The Charleston Parks Conservancy will kick off the holiday season with the annual tree lighting and winter celebration at Colonial Lake on Friday, Dec. 6. This year, Publix is supporting the event as the presenting sponsor. Publix — the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States — has a long-standing tradition of community service and support.

“Publix is proud to support the Charleston Parks Conservancy by serving as the presenting sponsor of Light the Lake,” said Erin McBride, Publix field marketing coordinator. “Publix has long been committed to giving back to our community. This partnership is a wonderful way for us to celebrate and aid in the conservation of our beautiful local parks for all families to enjoy.”

“It means so much to have a company like Publix join us in our mission of connecting people to Charleston’s parks,” said Harry Lesesne, executive director of the Charleston Parks Conservancy. “Publix recognizes how important it is to host free events in our city’s parks so families, neighbors and friends can enjoy these public spaces and make lasting memories. We are excited to begin what we hope is a long-lasting relationship with a wonderful organization.”

Join the Charleston Parks Conservancy for an evening of holiday festivities at Light the Lake, presented by Publix, from 5-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bring the entire family and enjoy holiday cookie decorating with Publix, a festive photo booth and letters to Santa station. Don’t forget to wear your best (or worst!) Christmas sweater for the ugly sweater contest. Plus, the Charleston Model Yacht Club will have model boats sailing on Colonial Lake.

Everyone is invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to fill Santa’s carriage with donations for Toys for Tots. The evening culminates with the lighting of the tree in the center of Colonial Lake by Mayor John Tecklenburg and a performance by the Meeting Street Watoto Charleston Ensemble.

Food trucks Independent Coffee Grounds, Kickin’ Chicken, Braised in the South, Pita Stroller, Roti Rolls, Pure Fluff Co. and T&T Original Kettle Korn will have food and drinks available for purchase. DJ Ede will be playing everyone’s favorite holiday music. Admission and holiday activities are free, and the event is rain or shine.

For more than 10 years, the Conservancy — through public-private partnerships — has had a hand in renovating and beautifying more than 25 parks in the City of Charleston. Notable projects include the complete renovation of Colonial Lake, the renovation of the Rose Pavilion at Hampton Park as well as Allan Park, Wragg Square, McMahon Playground at Hampton Park, Magnolia Park and Community Garden, Marion Square, and Medway Park and Community Garden.
